About Us

In Doug Clark's mind, the first and most important step in constructing a dream home has nothing to do with materials, laborers, or timelines.

It has everything to do with building a relationship with the future homeowner-- so that, together, they can build a vision and use that as a foundation and a resource to experience the exciting process of translating site maps, permits, and house plans into a comfortable, enduring structure that uniquely meets the needs and desires of the homeowner.

Doug Clark approaches custom home construction from a unique perspective, in large part due to his prior experience in the hotel and hospitality industry.

Though his college experience was focused on law and education, it was his athletic prowess and spirit of competition that propelled him into a career as a professional tennis player. As he played his way up and down the East Coast, club owners were intrigued by Doug's innate ability to analyze their businesses' weaknesses and strengths and make sound suggestions for improvements to both their physical properties and their system of business. Soon Doug became the owner of several successful athletic clubs, so when Seattle-based Westin Hotels tapped him to do contract work on amenity development across North America, he seized the opportunity to move his family back to his hometown of Gig Harbor, Washington. When the extensive travel started to interfere with his ability to spend time with his family, he decided that he could take what he loved most about his work in the hospitality industry-- the presentation of a vision for how to create, improve, and customize an existing space-- and translate that to custom home construction. He founded Choice Construction and Consulting, Inc. in 2001 and since then has built a wide range of homes, from 1800-square-foot spec homes to ranches with horse arenas and barns, as well as very large homes.

Ultimately, the home is the end product of the collaboration between the homeowner and the builder, and "Choice" is a word that aptly describes the process through which Doug leads his customers.

From start to finish, it's a matter of assisting clients with making decisions that allow them to achieve their dream homes within the framework of their budget. Clear and frequent communication is vitally important, and between e-mails, weekly progress reports and photo-journaling, this constant contact between Choice Construction and its' clients is what oftentimes turns a business relationship into a real friendship. Doug and his wife, Karen, usually have lunch or dinner with every client. In his own words, "We only work with people we like; if I wouldn't barbeque with them, I wouldn't build their house. Our projects are really nice projects and we're doing them for really nice people -- what a win-win situation!".

"At Choice Construction, we treat the house as if it's our house. I'm on the front line with the customer and it's my reputation, my company's reputation."
